Global union federation files complaint against Prosegur with UN Human Rights Council

Geneva October 7 -  UNI Global Union today filed a complaint against Spanish security company Prosegur with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. UNI asked the Council to intervene because we fear for the personal safety of staff in its  Colombia and Peru operations.

The decision to bring the complaint comes after a catalogue of threats to Prosegur trade union leaders in both Colombia and Peru, culminating in a violent physical attack on a Peruvian union leader.

Chile Private Health Federation Formed

More than a hundred and ten unionists from private clinics in Santiago, Chile voted last week to create a National Union Federation of private clinics in Chile.

This decision was taken at the Second National Conference of Trade Unions of Private Clinics in Chile which lasted two days and was attended by distinguished speakers, including Claudia Pascual, Minister Sernam; Maria Eugenia Puelma, Seremi Labour; Francisco Javier Díaz, Secretary of Labor, and Marco Barraza, Secretary of Social Welfare.

The 12th UNI Apro Postal Union Forum was successfully held in Taiwan

The 12th UNI Apro East Asia Postal Unions Forum was held in Taipei, Taiwan, on September 28 2014. It attracted approx. 40 participants from Chunghwa Postal Workers Union (CPWU), Japan Postal Group Union (JPGU), and Korea Postal Workers Union (KPWU). This forum focused on “New Services and Innovation,” and “the current situations surrounding postal business in each countries.”

UNI ILC Women's Committee and Youth Committee pledge support to 40/40 and Break the Circle!

Women & Youth from the affiliates participated with enthusiasm and expressed their support to UNI strategic priorities. Participants from Finance, Postal, MEI had lively discussions about the need to organise women & youth in the unions .

Discussing gaming situation in Brazil

On September 22, UNI Gaming met with the representatives on CONTRATUH in Brasilia. CONTRATUH is one of the biggest affiliates of UNI Gaming in the region. For ten years, they have been fighting to legalise bingos after the law banning them was introduced in 2004. Since then, thousands of workers lost their jobs or are involved in illegal gambling establishments.

Round table on temp agency work in Serbia

On Sember 13, UNI Europa together with Eurociett (European Confederation of Private Employment Services) organised the Roundtable meeting on temporary agency work social dialogue in Serbia. The aim of the round tables is to develop a constructive and fruitful social dialogue in the accession countries within the temporary agency work sector. This meeting was one of the series of meetings for accession countries supported by TAIEX. Before, similar meetings were organised in Croatia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, etc. before they joined the EU.

Brasil - Brazilian bank workers go on strike for wages and working conditions

Brazilian bank workers from public and private banks all over the country go on strike from this Tuesday, Oct 30, for undetermined time. Following the National Leadership’s recommendation, coordinate by Contraf-CUT, the decision was taken by local assemblies organized by bank workers’ unions on Monday, which confirmed the decisions of Sept 25 assemblies and rejected the banks’  proposal presented on Saturday 27 by Fenaban, the employers’ organization.
