BNP Paribas, UNI finance and its affiliates sign an equality agreement for Europe

BNP Paribas, UNI Finance and its affiliates, and FECEC signed an "Equal Opportunity" agreement for all the BNP employees across Europe during the next three years. This agreement is the second part of a European Social Charter signed in 2012 with BNP Paribas.

Yves Martrenchar (Head of BNP Human Resources), Elise Buckle (UNI Finance), Sébastien Busiris (National Secretary of FO Banques) and Gabriel di Letizia the Secretary of the European Works Council were present for the signature and ceremony that took place in Paris on the 16th of September.

Bank of Brazil should respect workers rights in the USA

In Brazil, the unions have now entered the collective bargaining negotiations with the banks including the Bank of Brazil.

As a follow up from the protest that was organized on Wall Street by UNI Finance, its affiliated unions, CWA and the Committee for Better Banks (http://www.uniglobalunion.org/sectors/finance/global-finance-workers-all...) , Contraf-CUT has submitted a specific clause to the Bank, which deals with the employees rights abroad.

Trade unions worldwide call for Independent and High Quality Public Service Broadcasting

“Any attack on Public Service Broadcasting is an attack on democracy,” stated Gerry Morrissey, UNI MEI President, at the UNI MEI World Conference on Public Service Broadcasting in Vienna. The conference gathered trade union leaders from across the world representing media workers in 140 unions and guilds and 70 countries.

Singapore Bank Officers Association celebrated its Golden Jubilee on 3rd October 2014 with a Gala Dinner at the Raffles Convention Centre in Singapore.

GMB members of ISS to go on 24 hour strike at Woolwich Hospital

GMB MEMBERS EMPLOYED BY ISS AT QUEEN ELISABETH HOSPITAL WOOLWICH TAKE 24 HOUR STRIKE ON WED 8TH OCTOBER IN DISPUTE OVER TWO TIER WORKFORCE IN NHS

Members want an end to the two- tier workforce within the hospital with the same pay rates and weekend enhancements and unsocial hours rates as directly employed staff says GMB.

GMB, the union for staff in the NHS, has given notice to contractor ISS at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich that members will take 24 hours strike action from 6am on 8th October in a dispute over a two tier workforce in the NHS.

ISS Shop Stewards plan next year of action

The ISS shop stewards network had an extremely successful conference in Brussels last week. Hosted by UNI Global Union and the European Trade Union Institute the meeting atrracted 19 delegates from 12 different unions right across Europe, from Belgium, Ireland, UK, Spain, Italy, Denmark and Sweden. The meeting was also attended by Rob Lumens the Vice Chair of the European Works Council.

Cleaners in Belgium in 7 weeks of strike action

Cleaners employed by the company BMS have now been out on strike for over 7 weeks. The dispute involves the company`s attempts to reduce costs on the contract from 9.8m Euros to 7.1m. The impact of this on the already low paid workers is a 40% cut in their wagesa and conditions. When the union moved to oppose these cuts the comapny identified the two trade union reps and tried to victimise them, making allegation sagainst them concerning the employment of agancy staff. The strike began in defence of the elected shop stewards, Said and Abdul.
