Bangladesh Accord completes all initial factory inspections

The Accord is proud to announce that the initial inspections of Accord producing factories have been completed within the agreed timeline of end September 2014.  Out of 1106 factories inspected, over 400 Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) have been finalised by the factories and company signatories, as well as being approved by the Accord Chief Safety Inspector (CSI).

Women Workers Strike at a Paper Mill in Jiangsu, Chine

Nearly 800 women workers at Gold East Paper Co., Ltd. in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu China went on strike on 15 October.  

The dispute was triggered when the workers got no pay increase while a group of their colleagues were benefited. The workers asked an explanation, a nonsence excuse was given by HR Manager as the demanding workers’ jobs were outsourced and they are not the workers of the company anymore but they are the workers of the agency. Then they responded the protests with humiliation as saying “shut up or sod off!”

Outward Bound Activities at UNI Apro Youth Workshop in Kuala Lumpur

All the participants were excited and eager to join the activity. In the Day Two of UNI Apro Youth Workshop, all participants got to know each other well with more solidarity, despite of their different countries and cultures. 

Yesterday's, team activities, included a ; “Discovery @ UNI Apro you(TH)’s, were carried out to visit some symbolic places in Kuala Lumpur by using the public transportation. In addition, each group was assigned to get the information the extent to people's knowledge about trade unions and how globalization has been affecting them.

This youth workshop is being held in collaboration with UNI Apro and The Federation of Information and Communication Technology Service Workers of Japan (ICTJ).

UNI’s Director of Tokyo Office on fact finding mission to Cape Town ahead of World Congress

The head of UNI’s Tokyo Office, Eiichi Ito has been in Cape Town this week to see for himself the preparations for the upcoming UNI Global Union World Congress. Brother Ito was joined by the President of UNI Africa and General Secretary of SACCAWU, Bones Skulu, UNI Africa Regional Secretary Zakari Koudougou and Keith Jacobs, Head of UNI’s Johannesburg office.

Brother Ito was impressed by the CTICC convention centre in Cape Town where the congress will unroll in December.
