UNI Finance Head Marcio Monzane and UNI Finance Americas Director Andre Rodrigues visited the UNI Caribbean Finance Unions from  September 14-20 2014 and  while they found that most major Caribbean Banks are  already organized by UNI Unions, there are still a few exceptions. In Trinidad and Tobago, the workers of RBC Royal Bank have been waiting for 3 years to get their Union-BIGWU, officially recognized to represent them.

Young workers describe “emergency situation” to major European Parliament groups

Brasil - Most Brazilian bank workers approve agreement and put an end on their national strike

Following the recommendation of the National Leadership of Bank Workers, coordinated by Contraf-CUT (The Brazilian Confederations of Financial Sector Workers), the vast majority of bank workers’ assemblies, held on Monday 6, approved the new proposal presented on Friday by Fenaban (The National Federation of Banks), the employers’ association, ending a nationwide strike which began on September 30. According to the agreement, wages will raise 8.5% (real growth of 2.02%), the wage floor will raise 9% (2.49% above inflation) and meal vouchers, 12.2%.

UNIA private care workers committee in Switzerland first to sign on!

A workers' committee in Thun, Switzerland have been the first to sign on to UNICARE Europa's position paper highlighting the impacts of austerity on the social insurance and private care sector in Europe.

These workers, from the private care sector, and their union, UNIA, are standing together with other European social insurance and private care unions to reject the cuts their sectors are facing, but also to highlight what can be done to bring important, and necessary, change to the sector.

On the World Day for Decent Work, TU NSZZ “Solidarity” in Poland demonstrates in front of the Polish Parliament for better working conditions in the commerce sector

On the world day for decent work, unionists from TU NSZZ “Solidarność” Commerce and hypermarket workers demonstrated in front of the Polish Parliament – Sejm. They handed a petition to the Polish Parliament spokeperson - Mr. Radosław Sikorski. In the petition, they ask to change the bad situation for commerce workers in Poland, in particular, they demand a pay rise and more attention to the hard working conditions in sector.

ANZ strike: send solidarity messages to workers in New Zealand!

On October 10th,  FIRST Union members at ANZ Bank are going on strike to protest against the bank proposals that would be highly disruptive to family life. 

The national strike is the first at the bank in over 5 years.  It follows several local strikes in the past fortnight, leading up to tomorrow.

Barclays Africa, a message from our President : moving ahead !

When we met in Ghana in July, with a highly committed team of union leaders who came from 7 countries across Africa, we shared a lot of ideas, energy and enthusiasm and we made each other a promise: when coming back to our home country, we will do our best to organize the Barclays workers, strengthen the unions and their negotiating power with the company.

We have some good news to share with all of you. This promise is starting to be fulfilled.

Organizing workers at UNI Credit and Allianz in Bucharest

A select group of union leaders from Allianz and UNI Credit met in Bucharest to boost their organizing campaign, recruit more members in the capital, further develop their networks and get to more than 50% density nationally to be able to conduct formal collective bargaining negotiations with the company.

The training was co-organized by FSAB and UNI Finance, with the facilitation of Lisa Eldret who has been a leading expert in organizing campaigns.

ANZ workers vote for national strike

FIRST Union members at ANZ have voted for nationwide industrial action to protect job security at New Zealand’s wealthiest bank.

Almost 85% of ballots cast were to take a national strike.  It follows several local strikes over the past fortnight.

“ANZ is proposing contracts where workers would only know month by month which days, start and finish times they will be working,” said FIRST Union Retail & Finance Secretary Maxine Gay.
