Caribbean Bank workers organized but exceptions exist In T&T and Bahamas!

UNI Finance officers Marcio Monzane and Andre Rodrigues visited UNI Caribbean Finance Unions in Trinidad Suriname Bahamas and Jamaica from  September 14-20 2014.While they found that most major Caribbean Banks are  already organized by UNI Unions, there are still a few glaring exceptions !

Italian Trade unions reach an agreement to manage redundancy and industrial plan in UNICREDIT

The agreement, composed by four important chapters, which includes Occupation, Collective Bargaining, Welfare an Industrial Relations was signed by the unions, in Italy. According the evaluation of the unions that signed the agrement, “This is the first step of a surely complex path but and, in our opinion, it is a good start to protect the workers and their rights”.

Oranges for 97 new members at Orange!

The telecomm union S.M: OMA finished its three day blitz in Antananarivero, capital city of Madagascar, by giving out 400 oranges to the workers as a `thank you`from the activists. Each orange had a smiley face drawn on it with a message from the union and were given out before the morning shift started at 8.00am. This marked the final day of action for the 16 activists who have undergone 2 and half days of training and then spent 2 and a half days putting their training into practice.

Pressure increases on Prosegur to honour human rights commitments

The pressure is mounting on Spanish security company Prosegur to honour its human rights commitments following a series of complaints about the firm’s conduct in Latin America.

Prosegur stands accused of rights and labour violations over several years including the alleged harassment and dismissal of trade unionists and activists.

UNI protests at plans to dissolve Swaziland unions

UNI Global Union has strongly condemned plans to dissolve the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) and the Amalgamated Trade Unions of Swaziland (ATUSWA).

The protest comes a day after the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Winnie Magagula, held a press conference and announced a Cabinet resolution deciding that pending legal reforms all federations should stop operating immediately.

Federations were called upon to submit reports of their operations to date including their prepared audited financial statements to the Commissioner of Labour.

Rome Opera dismisses orchestra and choir

The Rome Opera has taken a dramatic decision to dismiss all 182 members of its orchestra and choir with the aim of outsourcing the work. This is a shocking decision which undermines the importance of skilled, dedicated musicians to an opera house, and puts many livelihoods at risk.

The International Arts and Entertainment Alliance condemns this decision and urges the Rome Opera to reinstate all the dismissed members of orchestra and choir, and to enter into genuine negotiations with its staff regarding the future of the Opera.

Orange Madagascar workers launch blitz action

The union S.M.OMA, which organises workers employed by Orange Madagascar, has completed 2 days of training and embarked upon an organising campaign in the city of Antananarivo. The training has focused on the need for the union to increase its density, improve its communications with workers and establish a strong bargaining relationship with the company, based on the terms of the Global Agreement between Orange and UNI Global union.
