On International Day of the Older Person, value our elders by valuing us

October 1 is International Day of the Older Person. On this day, staff who work day-in and day-out to care for our elders are putting out the call for the valuing of care work. This is because care workers know the treatment of our elderly is tied to the conditions and treatment of the care workforce.

Ver.di members in 50 companies on warning strike

The second round of collective negotiations has failed on the wage dispute in the paper, paperboard and plastics processing sector of Germany. The last offer from Ver.di, 3.7 % wage increase for 12 months, was rejected by HPV, the Employer Association. Ver.di decreased its wage request from 5,5% to 3,7% under the condition that the collective agreements in the sector are either compulsory or industry minimum wages are to be introduced.

Conference on Employability (Dual Careers) in the European Sport Sector

UNI Europa Sport and EASE, the European Association of Sport Employers, held a conference in Brussels to discuss the issue of employability in the European Sport Sector. All three subsectors were well represented: professional sport (EU Athletes), active leisure, and not for profit sport. Agata Dziarnowska from the European Commission made a presentation that focused on the EU Work Plan for Sport 2014-17 and, specifically, the Expert Group on Human Resource Management in Sport.

2nd Workshop of the Mentoring Program in the Americas

On the 18th and 19th of September a second workshop for the Mentoring Program was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the BANADE headquarters. The workshop was organized by the Head of the Equal Opportunities Department, Verónica Fernández Méndez and the Head of UNI Americas Women, Katy González, with the coordination of the President of UNI Americas Women, Alejandra Estoup.

European Skills Council - newsletter September

UNI Europa and Eurocommerce have just published a newsletter on the latest activities and highlights from the European Sector Skills Council for Commerce (ESSC).

In order to pursue its mission, the Commerce ESSC includes in its Work Programme a range of activities aimed at drawing a picture as accurate as possible of the sector’s workforce composition and trends in skills demand and offer, identify skills needs, indicate possible answers and, on the basis of this analysis, issue recommendations to stakeholders in order to more effectively address them.
