Finance sector companies improve transnational coordination

On 10-11 September 2014, trade union representatives of Deutsche Bank, Allianz, BNP Paribas Fortis, UniCredit, Barclays and Société Générale meet in Potsdam, Germany. The workshop is facilitated by the European trade union federation UNI Europa Finance and aims for the participants to improve their practical work in the European works councils (EWC).

Les travailleurs de l’entreprise de sous-traitance BM&S, actifs dans les ateliers de la SNCB à Schaerbeek, sont en grève déjà de 21 août. Ils réclamaient la réintégration de deux délégués syndicaux injustement licenciés.

Depuis le 1er avril dernier, la société de nettoyage BMS, Business Maintenance Services, nouvelle venue dans le secteur du nettoyage, a repris le nettoyage des trains et des graffitis au dépôt de la SNCB à Schaerbeek (Belgique).

New York Times: penny finally drops: retail workers do better with unions!

The article “Some Retail Workers Find Better Deals With Unions”, by Rachel L. Swarns, focuses on a worker at the Macy’s Store in Herald Square in New York which is unionized. Unlike assistants in non-unionised stores Debra Ryan has fixed hours and can provide for her family.

UNI Europa Women’s Committee Statement of Support for the Hair and Beauty Sector in regards to European Council’s REFIT measures

The UNI Europa Women’s Committee is deeply concerned with the European Commission’s decision to further pursue and implement the simplification measures established in its Regulatory Fitness and Performance Programme (REFIT) in both the agreement on the Protection of Occupational Health and Safety in the Hairdressing Sector as well as the Maternity Leave or Pregnant Worker’s Directive.

Pensions and Women's Poverty in Old Age

On the 4th of September, 2014, the women of the UNI Europa Women's Committee held a seminar on Pensions and Women's Poverty in Old Age in Brussels, as part of the meeting of the UNI Europa Women's Committee meeting. 

The seminar discussed pensions: what they are, how they are financed in different countries, how contributions affect them and most importantly, how the existing gender wage gap has affected women's pensions and what effects this will take on their later years.

Jennings to JAW: Abenomics “an arrow to the heart of workers”

Philip Jennings has warned hundreds of Japanese trade unionists that Abenomics is an arrow directed at the heart of workers.

The UNI Chief addressed the Confederation of Japanese Auto Workers (JAW) Convention in Tokyo. Japanese unions are rising up against Abenomics – the economic policies of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe – saying it will further accelerate income inequality in the country.
