Two Victories in US Walmart Campaign

Walmart workers in the US who have organized with the Organization United for Respect at Walmart (OUR Walmart) and their allies to take up critical issues that workers have raised regarding scheduling and discrimination against pregnant workers.  Because of the continued leadership of Walmart workers, Walmart was forced to listen to them.  UNI Global Union stands behind these brave workers and congratulates them for these victories:

Japan trip concludes with round of visits to trade union leaders

Walter Palmer, Head of UNI Sports Pro visited some of UNI Japanese affiliates including UAZensen, ICTJ and JAW on Monday, 14 April to introduce what UNI Sports Pro is trying to achieve and exchange views on athlete employees.  Some Japanese companies hire sports athletes as employees and sponsor sports teams.

Basketball Players Getting Organized in Japan

Following in the footsteps of the baseball and football players in Japan, a group of basketball players in the NBL (Nippon Basketball League) has formed a players association with the purpose of improving the conditions under which the players compete. JPBA President, Yusuke Okada, highlighted a drastic increase in the number of games played each season as a major consideration in the formation of the union. The NBL (league) also unilaterally imposed a salary cap and is now seeking to decrease the amount each team can pay its players for the 2014-2015 season.

Springtime in e-commerce: time for Congress to strengthen the Postal recovery

Since 2011 the US Postal Service is facing a striking new opportunity with e-commerce parcel traffic surging ahead. Congress needs to change its strategy first defined in 2011 from a "shrink to survive" to a " commit to a valuable asset"  strategy says the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC).

Postal Services are facing a renewed opportunity to grow their services and invest in a strong Post as e-commerce is a booming business. This entails investment in technology and training for Postal services to serve their clients in a fast and efficient way.

NLRB Takes ‘Extraordinary Action’ to Consolidate Complaints Against T-Mobile US

Washington, D.C. -- In an extraordinary decision, the General Counsel for the National Labor Relations Board has moved to consolidate recent unfair labor practice complaints that have been brought against T-Mobile US. The telecommunications company has been cited for its relentless and escalating attempts over the past 10 years to stop workers from obtaining union representation.

The mighty Finance Lobby in Brussels

The finance industry invests around 120 million Euros per year to have 1700 lobbyists influence the European legislators. These alarming data come out of a recent study on “The fire power of the Financial lobby”. The study has been published by the Austrian Chamber of Labour and the Austrian trade union confederation together with Corporate European Observatory.
