Hoskins, the author of Stiched Up: The Anti-Capitalist Book of Fashion, said freedom of association and unionisation is key to progress in the garment industry.

UNI-LC Japan: the trade union response to the "Financial Big Bank Initiative"

In its new Bulletin published in May 2014, the UNI Liaison Council for Japan gives an in depth analysis of the "Financial Big Bang Initiative" reforms lead by the Japanese government and the response from the finance unions in the country.

This publication was presented at the Asia Development Bank meeting which took place in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Vigdis Hjorth awarded UNI Europa's 2014 Cultural prize

The author Vigdis Hjorth is awarded UNI Europa's Cultural Prize for the book “Long Live the Post Horn!” which was published in 2012.

Hjorth was awarded the prize as she portrayed the Norwegian Trade Union POSTKOM's struggle against the EU's Third Postal Directive, in excellent fashion.

Ellinor, the main character in the book is a communications consultant. She seeks seriousness and sincerity in her existence. When faced with the union's and postal workers' challenges she finds answers to her own existential questions.

BBC: "Only 20% of World Cup security guards will be trained"

The BBC has reported on the lack of training and preparation for Security Guards recruited for duties during the World Cup in Brazil, due to start in a few weeks time. 25,000 guards are required to cover the 12 Football Stadiums but less than 7,000 have received the training required. The companies are due to take over security at the stadiums from 21st May.

Jennings to CNBC: inequality is dysfunctional for economies

UNI Global Union general secretary, Philip Jennings, has told CNBC that economic inequality is proving dysfunctional for economies, businesses and people.

Speaking to press at the OECD Forum in Paris this week, the UNI chief warned that something is "fundamentally wrong" for working people and called for more collective bargaining for higher wages.
