Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) has potential to undermine EU procurement rules in care sector

The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) aims to remove trade barriers in a wide range of economic sectors to facilitate purchasing and selling goods and services between the EU and the US. As well as cutting tariffs across all sectors, the EU and the US want to tackle barriers behind the customs border – such as differences in technical regulations, standards and approval procedures. The TTIP negotiations, however, will also look at opening both markets for services, investment, and public procurement.

Media Prima’s TV3 executive union wins recognition

After weeks of preparation and intense campaigning, workers at TV3 voted overwhelmingly for union representation of Executive staff at TV3. Out 700 workers over 70% voted for the union.

The TV3 Executive Union General Secretary, Bro. Shahrul Azman said "all the hard work has been fruitful and we can now effectively represent all executive staff at TV3. The union will now start working towards the improvement of conditions that should be brought to the TV3 executive staff".

Hundreds march on Deutsche Telekom headquarters

Hundreds of trade union activists gathered in Berlin for the ITUC World Congress marched on the headquarters of Deutsche Telekom’s offices in the German capital.

Philip Jennings roused the crowd, paid tribute to CWA, Ver.Di and DGB for standing up for T-Mobile workers in the United States and called upon Deutsche Telekom to do the right thing.

Win for 95,000 Austrian Private Health and Social Services Workers: Higher Pay, Improved Parental Leave, and Recognition!

2014 has already seen a win for Austrian UNICARE affiliate GPA as employer and union representatives have agreed on increased wages, basic salaries and allowances for 95,000 workers in the private health and social services areas. Wages have now increased by 2.5%. Parental Leave improvements have been won, and recognition of previous experience, skill and training has also been achieved.

UNI answering the ITUC call for a global organising offensive

ITUC General Secretary Sharan Burrow threw down the gauntlet on organising a further 20 million workers at the ITUC World Congress and UNI picked it up.

During a session on organising and building power for workers, UNI and its partner global unions, IndustriALL and the ITF showed how they are winning the battle to organise across the world from Turkey, through Bangladesh to Colombia.

ITUC delegates to rally at Deutsche Telekom in Berlin

Delegates at the ITUC World Congress in Berlin will today take part in a rally to protest against anti-union practices at T-mobile US owned by Deutsche Telekom.

Union representatives and workers from UNI Global Union and its affiliates Ver.di and CWA will take part alongside DGB and AFL-CIO.

The UNI delegation is headed by General Secretary Philip Jennings, Deputy General Secretary Christy Hoffman and Alan Tate, Head of UNI ICTS.

ITUC warns ANCHAM to back off

The International trade Union Confederation today demanded that the American Chamber of Commerce cease intervening in the domestic politics of other nations.

ITUC general secretary Sharan Burrow today launched a video, based on real transcript, detailing the tactics associated with the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) to de-unionise workplaces .

“AmCham has openly attacked fair labour laws in countries as diverse as Moldova, Romania, Portugal, Spain, Ireland and the slave-state of Qatar.

First transnational coordination meeting for Aldi and Lidl trade union activists

On 15 May 2015, UNI Europa organized the first meeting to discuss working conditions, trade union challenges and ongoing campaigns in the two bigger discounters in Europe: Aldi and Lidl. Both German based, Aldi and Lidl entered into a price war in Germany where, together with other similar competitors, they are gaining more and more in terms of market share and turnover according to a recent study carried out by Ver.di in Germany.
