Engineers -principal officials of Institution of Engineers of Bangladesh (IEB)-who participated at the recently concluded National Network Meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh, assured IEB’s support and engagement with the UNI Apro affiliates to lobby and influence compliance of international standards in work places in Bangladesh. 

UNI Apro implemented the workshop with the support of FES as a new to initiative to develop a collaborative approach amongst stake holders to bridge implementation gaps in International Labour Standards and Decent Work agenda in Bangladesh.

Rob Wayss Executive Director of Bangladesh Accord a joint initiative by UNI and Industriall  to improve the safety standards in the garments factories in Bangladesh shared the work the accord has done with the support of the European Brands to improve the quality of life of employees working in the factories with appalling working conditions.  Over 100 Engineers engaged by Bangladesh Accord have now inspected safety conditions over 1100 garment factories in Bangladesh.

Pav Akhtar UNI Global Director for Professionals & Managers and Jayasri Priyalal Regional Director implemented the network meeting in Dhaka on 2-3 September 2014. UNI officials paid a visit to the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh and met the President of IEB Prof. Dr Engr. Shamin Z Bosunia and the officials and explained UNI’s work the Global engineering community, and invited the IEB to join the  Multi Stake holder collaborative approach network meeting.
