Amazon beware: UNI & ITF are watching you

UNI Global Union and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (the ITF) are united in vowing to keep a close eye on the online retailer Amazon due to its ongoing failure to provide better working conditions and collective agreements. Amazon has featured prominently on the agenda of the ITF world congress in Sofia this week.

The ITF will work with UNI Global Union to organise and coordinate solidarity action to help workers in their fight for decent working conditions and collective bargaining agreements.

UNI Indian Liaison Council Re-Launched

UNI Indian Liaison Council (ILC) held its baord meeting on 30th July 2014, in Mumbai, India with the presence of  UNI Apro Regional Secretary Christopher Ng. Chris emphasized on the need of UNI ILC revival with the new developments taking place in India. He commended the efforts put in by UNITES Hyderabad organizing IT & BPO employees in to trade unions with encouraging results. Christopher welcomed the new affilaites to the board meeting the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation (AISBISF) & All India Bank of Baroda Officers Association (AIBOBOA).

UNI Gaming Signs the Agreement with the Mexican HR Commission

On July 30, UNI Gaming opened its second regional conference in Americas signing the Agreement with the Mexican Commission of Human Rights.

Mexican Human Rights Commission is the main government agency responsible for promoting and protecting human rights in Mexico and it also has a consultative power to advise the law-makers. SINTOLED, UNI's affiliate in Mexico, has been actively involved in working together with the community and government organisations aiming for a proper national legislation regulating gambling in the country.

TISA - backdoor services liberalisation on a global level!

The Trade in Services Agreement (TISA) currently under negotiation on the side-line of the World Trade Organization (WTO) poses significant deregulatory threats for the majority of services sectors. International trade in services is dealt with by the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and its annexes. Each WTO country so far autonomously decides which sectors are to be opened up to cross-border competition. Services sectors liberalisation is carried out once governments gave their explicit agreement to do so (positive lists).
