UNI Global Union’s General Secretary Philip Jennings says “Britain Needs a Pay Rise” is a part of a global campaign against inequality. “The World Needs a Pay Rise” will be one of the major themes and sessions at UNI Global Union’s World Congress in Cape Town this December. The dangers of wealth inequality has been acknowledged by a number of influential leaders and organizations recently, including President Obama, Germany’s Bundesbank, the OECD and the IMF. What’s required now is action, says Jennings.
UNI Global Union General Secretary, Philip Jennings said, “UNI fully backs the TUC’s Britain Needs a Pay Rise day of action. I’m on record calling for a “global pay rise” and the TUC is taking the same message to the streets of Britain. Many leaders have now come round to the union view that inequality is bad for business. What we need now is action and a change of culture. The TUC is taking an important lead in the UK by demanding the government acts on basic issues including unfair taxes benefiting the super-rich and a minimum wage which is not being properly enforced. It's not just bad for business, it's bad for economic vitality, communities and individual well being. Unions are part of the solution. We can fix this.”
Jennings added, “Only this week we once again had it confirmed that the fat cat bonus culture in the UK is still part of City life. The bankers have gone out of the way to find a loophole and cash in on it. The British people do not accept this return to greed and that is why they will march on Saturday. ”
