UNI Global Union has condemned this week’s abhorrent terror attack in Tunis which left at least 21 people dead and injured many more.
Tunisian authorities have made multiple arrests since the attack which apparently targeted tourists at a museum in the Tunisian capital.
UNI General Secretary Philip Jennings said, “UNI Global Union strongly condemns the attack carried out on 18th March in the centre of Tunis.”
“We express our solidarity with the Tunisian people and our sincere condolences to the families of the victims."
UNITE has called for industrial action at the Smurfit Kappa plant in Northampton following the dismissal of a local union representative. Another union representative has been suspended, pending a further hearing which could also result in his dismissal. After several years of successful growth and development, Spanish multinational Inditex has launched a new plan to include employees in the financial benefits of a prosperous 2015-2016.
Head of UNI Commerce Alke Boessiger urged caution saying, “We welcome this initiative because it recognises the role of Inditex employees in creating a successful and prosperous company. However, the company must still do more to improve scheduling and pay in order to reduce staff turnover. Otherwise too many short-term employees will miss out on the benefits of this new scheme.”
Representatives of more than 300 workers that were laid off from Prosegur Paraguay, came together today at the Ministry of Labour in Asuncion to present the ILO resolution on their case.
The workers were immediately dismissed after going on a legal strike to achieve their first collective agreement in July 2012. Prosegur’s mass layoff occurred after the Paraguayan Minister of Labour and the company asked the union, SITEPROPASA, to lift the strike and return to the negotiating table.

UNI Gaming Global Union is disapointed and angry to hear about Enjoy Casino Conrad (Uruguay) dismissing 36 workers, some of whom were employed in the company for over 17 years. According to UNI's affiliate AFUC (Association of Conrad Employees), the management failed to give any clear explanations and reasons for those dismissals.
