Amazon Germany workers on strike again

New strikes for a collective agreement with the online retailer Amazon continue at the Amazon site in Bad Hersfeld.

From the night shift, UNI affiliate ver.di has called on employees of the two fulfilment centeres FRA1 and FRA3 for a two-day walkout. The strike begins with the night shift and ends on Wednesday, 03.18.15 with the late shift.

ZIBAWU running successful campaign to respond to bank closures in Zimbabwe

The UNI Finance affiliate ZIBAWU (Zimbabwe Banks and Allied Workers Union) raised serious concerns regarding poor corporate governance and weak regulatoray systems which resulted in many bank closures in Zimbabwe. In 2003/204 over 12 banks were closed. More recently, from 2011, a total of 9 Banks closed rendering 1222 employees and ZIBAWU members jobless.

A Photo Report: Prosegur Colombia Manager Sought by Police

The Bogota Metropolitan Police again visited the offices of Prosegur today to look for Alejandro Agudelo, the manager legally responsible for the company in Colombia.

It was the second police visit to Prosegur in a week, with the objective of detaining Agudelo. Yet again Agudelo wasn’t in the building and apparently has not appeared to give explanations to the police during the past week.

New Evidence of Allegations in DHL India

An ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) official returns from India today after a fact-finding visit to investigate allegations made by Indian unions and workers – as well as in a report to be released today and a recent German TV programme – of serious injustices in the operations of logistics giant Deutsche Post DHL there.

The ITF and UNI Global Union work together to ensure that DP-DHL treats its workers fairly and with respect – wherever they are in the world (see www.dhlblog.org).

Singapore National Trade Union Congress (SNTUC) received a special award from UNI Professional & Managers Group for “Building union Power for Professionals & Managers” at the inaugural award ceremony held in Istanbul, Turkey on 11th March 2015 held in conjunction with UNI P&M World Conference. 

SNTUC’s effort for securing new legal rights to organize and represent Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians in Singapore was commended by the UNI Professionals & Managers conference; and the award was presented to SNTUC.

Concrete factory disaster in Bangladesh: UNI renews calls for better safety standards

UNI Global Union says the concrete factory collapse in Bangladesh, which has claimed many lives, is a terrible reminder of the need for better building safety standards. It is a further example that the Bangladeshi authorities are still failing to achieve the safety standards required.

We speak from bitter experience of the Rana Plaza factory collapse in April 2013 which cost over 1000 lives. Our drive to improve building standards in the garment sector was promised by the authorities to drive new standards throughout the economy.
