Eight unions and associations representing creators, technicians and other workers in broadcasting, film and TV production are planning to join forces within one federation. During a first a coordination meeting in Kuala Lumpur at the end of January, the leaders of all organisations agreed to come together and build this new structure to better defend the rights and interests of all media & entertainment professionals in Malaysia.
The producer of the film Mandela: A Long Walk to Freedom, Anant Singh, launched a competition to take two Gymnase de Nyon students to UNI Global Union’s World Congress in Cape Town. Students will submit a Nelson Mandela themed project in art, music or film. In the competition jointly created by UNI Global Union and the Syndic de Nyon, the best two projects will see two students win a ticket to Cape Town.
UNI Europa Property Services and its Social Partner CoESS, have formally validated the European Online Interactive Risk Assessment (OiRA) Tool for Private Security Services. Risk assessment in the workplace is key to protecting the health and safety of workers and reducing occupational accidents. UNI Europa and EuroCommerce, the European social partners for the commerce sector, believe that their sector can contribute to economic recovery and growth. The commerce sector has real potentials regarding employment creation. According to certain estimates the commerce sector will need more than 22 million employees over the 2010- 2025 period, including 4.3 million new jobs and 17.7 million replacement demands.

Under these slogans, UNI Americas and its affiliates in the commerce sector of Brazil mobilise in Porto Alegre, together with all Brazilian trade union confederations, the Students National Union, political parties and social organisations. The large group of protestors marched 5 kilometres under a blazing sun and a temperature of 45 degrees, which did not reduce at all the enthusiasm of the demonstrators.
Following a competitive tender, An Post signed a major new contract with Minister for Social Protection J. Burton to deliver social welfare cash payment services.
The contract is worth more than 50 million euros per annum to An Post and is for a minimum period of 2 years, extendable up to 6 years. This contract recognizes the value of An Post's unique retail network as well as its trustworthy and secure level of service to customers. It will maintain jobs and the drive to invest in new products and technologies at An Post.
