Emerging market scares trigger financial "bucking bronco"

Obama can improve equality by letting USPS offer more financial services

A White Paper on "Providing Non-Bank Financial Services for the Underserved" has just been published by the Office of Inspector General at the USPS (United States Postal Service).

It takes a strong stance in favour of the U.S. Post being authorized to extend its range of basic financial services to serve the quarter of all U.S. households, or some 68 million adults, that are currently suffering from lack of access or of affordability of financial services.

Nordea set to slash jobs in 900 million EUR savings plan

Nordea, one of Europe’s largest banks, is expected to slash jobs despite reaping more than 4 billion EUR in profit during the last year.

The Nordic finance giant has announced a total 900 million EUR savings plan for the next two years after a similar move in 2011 cost around 2000 jobs. The unacceptable cuts come at the same time as planned salary increases for Nordea board members.

UNI Affiliates in Cape Verde tell the Government to shape up

UNI Affiliates in Cape Verde Islands SITIF and SITTHUR, joined the Country National Centre UNTC-CS after a long period of discussions and negotiations with employers and Government, and called an industrial action on 20th January 2014 to show displeasure on a number of issues affecting workers in the country. The centre stage of the mass action took place in Santo Antäo and Brava Islands with a total of more than 30,000 workers attending the manifestations, which were recorded as the biggest in the Countries history.

UNI Europa P&M visits the European Parliament

The UNI Europa Professionals and Managers (P&M) steering group met on 27 and 28 January to discuss the objectives and challenges of P&M work in the next months. At the end of a successful meeting during which an ambitious work plan for P&M activities was agreed upon, several members had the opportunity to meet with officials in the European Parliament.
