Corporate Social Responsibility: EU banking social partners’ Statement on common understanding

European social partners in the banking sector have agreed in November 2013 and signed on 31st January a joint statement on CSR. It revises the Joint Statement which had already been signed in 2005, taking into account the sector’s current challenges after the financial crisis. The social partners agreed that nine years after the first joint statement on CSR, it is now the moment to mark the sector’s endeavours by setting this revision.

An extension order that Economy Minister Naftali Bennett signed on February 5, 2014 in the presence of Histadrut Chairman Ofer Eini and representatives of the private employers, is real news to tens of thousands of workers and families in Israel *** The significance of signing the extension order: a significant improvement in the employment conditions of the cleaning sector workers in the private sector.

UNI MEI supports "je marche pour la culture" in France

Cultural workers and their unions together with associations in the cultural sector mobilised yesterday in the streets of Paris for the initiative" je marche pour la culture" (I march for culture). The call to the streets seeks to raise awarenness for the threat to culture in France and beyond caused by budget cuts and more generally by shortsighted and ill coordinated policies affecting the sustainability of the cultural sector.

Kenya Affiliate Organising Champions!

UNI affiliate from Kenya the Kenyan National Private Security Workers Union continues to grow at an astonishing rate since its Organising Campaign was launched last August. Another 1,500 workers have joined since Christmas as the union pushes out its growth from Nairobi into surrounding areas. A combined effort by local activists and national officers has seen organising teams working out in areas where workers are usually isolated and hard to contact. All weekend the organising teams have been on the road talking to workers and building networks.

UNI Presents Prosegur OECD Complaint

UNI Property Services Head of Department, Alice Dale, met with the Spanish OECD National Contact Point on 6 February 2014 to officially present UNI's complaint filed in Madrid on 26 November 2013 against Prosegur.  The Complaint discusses the serious and ongoing denial of human and trade union rights across South America by the Spanish-based private security firm.
