UNI Gaming Opens Discussions with the European Casino Association
On March 13, President of UNI Europa Gaming Pilar Rato, UNI Europa Regional Secretary Oliver Roethig and UNI Gaming Director Giedre Lelyte met with the Board members of the European Casino Association (ECA). It was the first meeting with the European casino employers on the European level. UNI Europa's group presented the activities of the organisation, emphasising the importance of the social dialogue on the European level as well as possible areas of co-operation, namely - professional training of employees, joint actions addressing money laundering and illegal gambling.

Holland Casino Employees on Strike
Last week, on March 14, nearly all Holland Casino employees in Utrecht and Rotterdam were on strike. This was the first strike since 1976. Around two hundred people did not work for 9 hours so all table games were shut down only with some slot machines operating.
Employees demand a better social plan and restructurisation without further job losses. In the past few years, Holland Casino (a state owned company) cut many jobs - only last year 150 employees had to leave.

UNICREDIT has presented 14 billion € losses as a result of their operations in 2013, and as part of the strategy to recover from this situation, they announced layoffs, which will affect 8.500 workers, mostly in Italy, Austria and Germany.

Norway's Digipost wins tender as the public sector's digital mail supplier
Digipost, which is Norway Post's digital mail system, has been chosen in stiff competition with other foreign suppliers to provide a high security communication channel for sensitive documents - not only with the government but also with banks and other organizations and enterprises that require safe access and filing of mail.
Digipost already has 300'000 Norwegians registered as users. With the government corresponding digitally from now on with all private individuals and companies, this membership is set to grow drastically.
Unions and brands mount pressure on Cambodian government
Unions and brands are increasing pressure on the Cambodian government to address the demands of garment workers in the country.
IndustriALL Global Union, Uni Global Union and the ITUC together with 31 major brands, including H&M, Inditex, Gap, Adidas and Nike, have signed a joint letter to the Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia reiterating the need for an urgent resolution to the minimum wage and to respect the human rights of 21 wage protestors detained since demonstrations in January.
