The European Commission pubshed a press release on the application of EU rules on temporary agency work. According to the report, all member states have correctly transposed the Directive 2008/104/EC on temporary agency work. The Commission has noted no need to amend the Directive but emphasised the imortance of its proper implementation.

Two workers have been fired in Colombia by Prosegur in the latest example of their denial of workers rights and the rights of the recognised trade union Sintravalores to represent and defend its members.
A two day Airports Organisng Conference hosted by the German trade union Ver.di has brought together unions feom the US, Europe and Australia who are organisng airport and airline workers. The conference also features joint work and presentations by the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and UNI.
Young trade unionists from across Europe gathered in Athens, Greece, on March 5-7, for the UNI Europa Youth Seminar 2014 hosted by Greece’s Panhellenic Federation of Postal Associations (UNI Global’s national affiliate union, POST – GR). As the centre of a new youth based union movement, Greece was a clear choice to meet for sharing information and concerns, and most importantly, for collaborating on solutions to address the troubling trends affecting young people and young workers in the skills and services sectors.
At the UNI Europa Youth Seminar 2014 in Athens, Greece, young trade unionists representing at least 17 countries across Europe met for two days of area meetings, presentations, panel discussions, and workshops to address priority topics for young workers. The so-called crisis and the effects of subsequent austerity measures on young people, the growing trends of internships and apprenticeships, and the negative impacts of privatization on young workers in the union movement in Europe were shared concerns for the group.
To address the growing trends of young people in precarious work, UNI Europa Youth join the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC - http://www.etuc.org/press/interns-should-not-be-regarded-employees-who-w...) on sending a clear message that the issues facing young workers must be a priority to unions and employers alike.

On March 1, 2014, UNI Global Union formally endorsed the Geneva Interns Association (GIA), the largest non-profit organization representing interns from all over the world who come to work at one of approximately 200 international organizations, businesses, and enterprises based in Geneva, Switzerland. At UNI Global’s head office, Philip Jennings, General Secretary of UNI Global Union, addressed interns, journalists, social activists and business representatives on the new world of work facing young people.
