Two workers have been fired in Colombia by Prosegur in the latest example of their denial of workers rights and the rights of the recognised trade union Sintravalores to represent and defend its members.

The incident happened in the town of Barranquilla earlier this week. The 2 workers allegedly refused to unload an ATM as it is not part of their collective agreement to carry out this very dangerous role. The 2 workers were instantly fired without use of the proper procedures. When the union tried to exercise its right to intervene they were refused this right by local management and apparently threatened with being fired themselves.

There is also a question under law about the workers being fired whilst these duties are currently subject to negotiation.

The broader question remains about the type of company that Prosegur is in Latin America. UNI has lready submitted OECD complainst about their human and trade union rights record in Colombia, Peru, Paraguay and Brazil.
