The Cable Television company Telecentro, was born in 1994. For over a decade, the company prevented the entry of SATSAID, using various anti-union practices, one of which was immediately dismiss workers who were affiliated. In 2005, tired of abuses, violations of wage conditions and mistreatment, 125 workers joined the union.
Despite the fact that the company continued with anti-union practices to prevent the organization, 450 employees joined our union in a short period. In 2007, the first internal union representatives were elected. SATSAID with union representatives and workers, managed over the years to bring about a collective bargaining agreement, and achieved major gains for workers Telecentro. However, the anti-union practices never ceased. Since 2008, the company is outsourcing many jobs. The companies contracted for the outsourcing force employees illegally in joining another union with a collective bargaining agreement with lower protection and pay than the collective agreement at Telecentro. Wages are one third of what the law provides for.
During all these years, SATSAID tried to stop the anti-union practices, including by appealing to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security of Argentina. Unfortunately, these actions have brought now change. In the past two years, the company Cable Television Telecentro further stepped-up its anti-union policy, and has downsized and outsourced, affecting the members of SATSAID and at the expense of growth of outsourced companies, representing today more than 2500 precarious workers. The owner of Telecentro is a politician who during the government of President Carlos Menem was 10 years President of the Chamber of Deputies. Today, owning an important communication network, he has still a great influence on the judicial and political powers of our country. To help us change this situation, we ask all members unions of UNI MEI to send to the authorities of Argentina and to
Telecentro a message of solidarity in support of SATSAID condemning anti-union practices targeting workers and our union, requiring compliance with labour legislation of Argentina, and the immediate cessation of precarious employment policies. Please find below a model text and email addresses where messages can be sent. Thank you very much for the support and solidarity.
