The Better Regulation Watchdog – a network of 55 organisations was launched on 18 May – a day before the European Commission presents its Better Regulation Package. UNI Europa took the initiative to form the network.

UNI Europa’s Head of EU Affairs Christina Colclough explains the benefits of the Better Regulation Watchdog.

ECB: Positive signals towards trade union consultation

For the first time in almost 16 years of social dialogue, social partners in the European Central bank reached a stage where the dialogue could transform into a real consultation.

“It would have been good to have a discussion before any decision had been taken, but we still have an opportunity to influence the ECB’s final decisions on some key aspects of the single supervisory mechanism’s implementation”, explains UNI Europa Regional Secretary Oliver Roethig at the social dialogue meeting on 19 May 2015.

Civil society groups form ‘Better Regulation’ Watchdog to protect citizen, worker and consumer rights

More than 50 civil society organisations have joined forces to create the ‘Better Regulation Watchdog’ – a network to protect citizens’, workers’ and consumers’ rights. The network was launched today in Brussels, one day ahead of the expected announcement of the European Commission’s so-called ‘Better Regulation’ reforms.

The network of organisations from around Europe is concerned that the ‘Better Regulation’ agenda aims to weaken or undermine essential regulations and subordinate the public good to corporate interests.

Korean Jeju Broadcasting Workers Union on strike for fair wages

UNI MEI Global Union supports the Jeju Broadcasting Workers Union who is now on strike for over 60 days. Since the opening of the Korean Broadcaster in 2002, Jeju employees and union members have suffered the lowest wages, welfare benefits and production costs among all terrestrial broadcasting companies in Korea, despite the fact that the company recorded profits and savings of over US$30million. The company rather prefers investing into “new business”.
