Youth @ Work breaks into Day 3

On day 3 of the UNI Apro Youth Breaking Through Workshop in Kuala Lumpur, participants spilt into groups and were assigned the task of discovering Kuala Lumpur while accessing the impact of globalization. Besides going around Kuala Lumpur on public transport, the groups had to interview at least six people about their work and union awareness.

Pressure mounts on Prosegur to address labour and human rights issues in Latin America

The private security giant, Prosegur, finds itself in the media spotlight after UNI Global Union’s complaint about the company’s human rights and labour relations record in Latin America.

The complaint, filed on November 26 with the Spanish government in Madrid, focuses on four countries and alleges a series of persistent violations of the OECD guidelines for multinational companies in Latin America.

The 3rd UNI Apro / Japan Postal Group Union (JPGU) Joint English Seminar 2013

The 3rd UNI Apro / JPGU Joint English Seminar was held in Ome City, Tokyo from 23 to 24 November 2013. About 40 participants from JPGU branches throughout Japan joined the seminar and learnt about the international trade union movement together with three resource persons from Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan. The aim of the seminar was to impart English-speaking skills to trade unionists and English was naturally chosen as the working language throughout the seminar. In the group work, participants also discussed how to improve communications among union members using English.

Unifor members at DHL Express across Canada vote to strike

(Toronto) Unifor members across Canada working at DHL Express delivery service have voted on average 98 per cent in favour of a strike if necessary, during a series of votes over the last two months.

 

Unifor represents more than 600 DHL workers across the country in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Nova Scotia. There are five regional collective agreements.

The UNI Apro Youth Breaking Through Workshop commences today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where 41 young unionists from 10 countries gather to challenge themselves as future trade union leaders.

The workshop is conducted with the support of the Federation of Information and Communication Technology Service Workers of Japan and has participants from ICTJ Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and Kenya.

UNI Global Union is the global trade union for the commerce sector, representing 20 million workers worldwide. UNI's affiliate unions represent Walmart workers the world over. In reaction to the appointment of Doug McMillion as Walmart CEO, UNI Global Union General Secretary Philip Jennings said:

“The appointment of Doug McMillon as CEO presents Walmart with an opportunity to choose a new direction at a time of growing unrest against its business model in the United States.
