Once again, WikiLeaks has revealed the intent of a few top leaders, especially from the US and EU, to agree behind closed doors on a major agreement which would further liberalize financial services and jeopardize financial regulation.

The TiSA negotiations include Australia, Canada, Chile, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Costa Rica, European Union (28 Member States), Hong Kong, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Liechtenstein, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Republic of Korea, Switzerland, Turkey and the United States.

Arrest Order for Managers of Prosegur Colombia

A Colombian court issued an arrest warrant against two Prosegur managers in the country. Prosegur refused to comply with a judicial order to pay unionized workers the same bonus that was paid to non-union employees. The payment of the bonus illegally encouraged workers to resign from the union in the company. Prosegur, a major global private security firm headquartered in Madrid, Spain, has a string of adverse legal rulings against it concerning human rights and labour violations in Colombia.

UNI Europa validates European Online Interactive Risk Assessment (OiRA) Tool for the Cleaning sector

UNI Europa Property Services and its Social Partner, the European Federation of Cleaning Industries (EFCI), have formally validated the European Online Interactive Risk Assessment (OiRA) Tool for the cleaning sector. Risk assessment in the workplace is key to protecting the health and safety of workers and reducing occupational accidents. Unfortunately, many small and medium enterprises do not have the resources to do this adequately, to the detriment of their employees’ well-being.

The Japan Postal Group Union (JPGU)’s 7th Annual Congress

The Japan Postal Group Union held the 7th annual congress on June 18-20 in Nagoya.  About 1600 delegates, observers, and guests came together through Japan and talked important challenges faced by the JPGU. Japan Post is scheduled to go public sometime in next year of 2015. One of the key issues was the IPO of Japan Post. The congress also talked the progress of its medium-term management plan, job security for the future, and improvement of working conditions worthy for listed company. Furthermore, it discussed about 300,000 union membership building.

ITUC Declaration, Argentina’s Economy at Risk from Vulture Funds

The ITUC and its regional organisation for the Americas TUCA have criticised a decision by the US courts in favour of “vulture funds” seeking to extract hundreds of millions of dollars in debt-repayment. Repayment to other creditors, over 90% of which negotiated repayment deals with Argentina in 2005 and 2010, are also affected by the court decision.

Arrest Order for Legal Representatives of Prosegur Colombia

In a decision issued on the 20th of June, a Colombian judge has ordered 5 days arrest for the legal representative for Prosegur in Colombia, Alejandro Agudelo Rojas and the second legal representative of the company Jorge Alfonso Rojas (Human Resources Manager) for not complying with a judicial order from August 2012.
