Strike at Kimberly Clark in Turkey

Around 230 members of TUMKA-IS, the All Paper & Cellulose Industry Workers'  Union, have gone on strike on 25 June for better wages and working conditions in the Kimberly Clark plant located in Pendik, Istanbul. TUMKA-IS is affiliated to IndustriALL Global Union and DISK, the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey.

Members were pushed into striking since negotiations for a plant level collective agreement failed after local  management of Kimberly Clark refused to meet demands of the workers.

Mentoring project in India

UNI India Liaison Council Women Committee aims at building a strong network of women across the affiliates in India.  It is expected that such a network will strengthen the affiliates and create a platform for active women to voice their concerns and share their experiences and success stories.

A pilot project has been launched with the first face-to-face kick-off meeting of two mentors and two mentees on 29 June 2014 in Kolkata.  They will work closely with mutual respect, courteous behavior and their unions’ full support.

'No court case is going to stand in the way of home care workers' - SEIU

Home care workers in the USA vowed to stand together and fight today's decision by the Supreme Court to undermine the rights of hard working, dedicated, mostly female home care workers to collectively bargain to improve their working conditions. The ruling in the historic Harris vs Quinn case also puts at risk the ability of seniors and people with disabilities to get the reliable care they need to remain in their homes.

Israeli unions win deal for disabled workers

The Histadrut and the Business Organizations Presidency signed on 25th June an agreement to integrate people with disabilities in the labor market in Israel.

BNP Paribas: top execs should pay the bill for unethical choices

BNP Paribas officially announced that it would plead guilty in the United States for its financial transactions with countries such as Iran, Cuba and Sudan that had been put under embargo by the international community for human right violations.

The UNI Finance affiliates, FO Banks and CFDT are deeply shocked by such negligence by the top management. The fine is huge, $ 8,9 million, and the employees may pay the bill.

Barclays France needs to respect labour laws

At the last European Workers Council, Barclays presented a plan to downsize its retail banking throughout continental Europe.
