In June 2014, the European social partners for Maritime Transport, namely the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) and the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF), wrote to the Commissioner responsible for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion concerning the social partner agreement on occupational health and safety in the hairdressing sector.

The European Social Partners for Maritime Transport, having been advised of the difficulties encountered in the legal transposition of the social partner agreement on occupational health and safety in the hairdressing sector, fully support the social partners in the hairdressing sector and recalling the provisions of Article 155 TFEU, demand that the EU Commission complies with those.

In their letter, the social partners for Maritime Transport, fully back the right of European Social Partners to conclude legally binding Social Partner Agreements. They insist on the fact that the EU Commission has a full responsibility to forward the agreement to Council, and that no administrative obstacle or barrier should be used to delay or even oppose the legal transposition process.

ECSA and ETF welcome the request of the Social Partners in the hairdressing sector for the timely legal implementation of the concluded social partner agreement and look forward to its adoption by the appropriate Council body in due course.
