UNI joins ITUC in Condemning Terrorist Attack on Synagogue, Calls for Calm

UNI has joined the ITUC in condemning Tuesday’s bloody attack on a Jerusalem synagogue which left four worshippers and one police officer dead, and several others injured. The two perpetrators were members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine which, along with Hamas, praised the attack.

Prosegur human rights investigation a “sham”

UNI Global Union General Secretary, Philip Jennings, has described the Prosegur’s internal investigation into extensive allegations of human rights violations at its operations in Colombia and Peru as little more than a sham. Jennings said he would inform the UNI World Congress in Cape Town next month that Prosegur’s behavior was “window dressing of the worst kind.”

Prosegur recently sent its Global Human Resources Director to Latin America to allegedly find the truth regarding threats and violence against union activists and leaders.

UNI joins ITUC in condemning attack on General Secretary of UGTT

Following the attack on Houcine Abassi, the General Secretary of the Tunisian trade union confederation, the Union générale tunisienne du travail (UGTT), UNI joins with the ITUC in condemning  this cowardly act. We stand in solidarity with the UGTT, the lynchpin of Tunisia’s successful transition to democracy.

Postal workers in the Canadian Postal Import Program (CPIP) have achieved a first collective agreement (CA) as CUPW members

Congratulations to the unit members and our negotiators on making history - this is CUPW’s first collective agreement with a temporary employment agency, and as far as we know it may be the first under federal or provincial labour legislation.

The Adecco/SQR bargaining unit was established in 2012 following a lengthy organizing drive originating in 2005. CUPW began to negotiate with Adecco. Adecco is a temp agency contracted by Canada Post to process incoming international parcels.

In response to USW charges: “Huhtamaki must inform employees of their rights"

As a result of unfair labor practice charges filed by the United Steelworkers, the Finish packaging company Huhtamaki has agreed with the National Labor Relations Board to inform employees  at its plant in Commerce, California about their rights.

The charges, filed under the National Labor Relations Act, alleged that Huhtamaki violated the rights of its workers by changing its no-solicitation policy and by enforcing that policy in a discriminatory manner to remove pro-union materials from the employee break room.
