Colombian union leaders assaulted and fired by Prosegur

SINTRAVALORES, the security union of Prosegur workers in Colombia, reported that yesterday, one of their union leaders was physically assaulted and another dismissed.   

Hector Fabio Bermeo, President of SINTRAVALORES in Neiva, Colombia, was punched in the mouth yesterday by Prosegur manager Isidro Gasca, head of security for the company in Neiva.  The union reports that Gasca tried to provoke Bermeo.  Being unable to provoke a response, that Gasca then punched him in the mouth.  Bermeo went to the hospital and is now on an 8-day medical release.

UNI representatives met with the President of the Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games in Rio Janeiro (Rio 2016), Mr. Carlos Nuzman, to discuss human rights abuses by private security company Prosegur in the region.

Rio 2016 is about to tender private security contracts for the Olympic Games in 2016. UNI maintains that the Olympic movement should evaluate the human rights record of companies that tender for contracts at the Games.

Tazreen victims set for compensation on second anniversary of tragedy

Two years after the Tazreen disaster that killed more than 12O people trapped in a factory fire in Dhaka, Bangladesh, an agreement has been made between IndustriALL Global Union and their local affiliates, the Clean Clothes Campaign and retailer C&A on delivering compensation to the victims.

On 24 November 2012, more than 120 people burnt to death after becoming trapped behind locked exits at the Tazreen Fashions factory, which supplied clothes to global brands. In addition, 300 people were severely injured in the fire.
