Social partners must be involved in EU Platform to prevent and deter undeclared work
The European social partners of the Agriculture, Cleaning, Construction, Horeca and Security services sectors have sent a joint position to Members of the European Parliament regarding the proposal for a decision on establishing a European Platform to enhance cooperation in the prevention and deterrence of undeclared work.
We highly welcome the intention to establish an EU Platform to enhance cooperation in the prevention and deterrence of undeclared work, as the proposal of the Commission explicitly indicates our sectors as having a high incidence of undeclared work.
Courts to Prosegur Colombia: Pay unionized staff US$ 3,000 or go to jail
The Supreme Court of Colombia has sent a clear message to Prosegur in Colombia, the company must respect judicial orders.
In December 2010 Prosegur paid a US$ 2,000 bonus to workers who left the union and signed a Pacto Colectivo, a contract for non-union employees. In December of 2013, Prosegur paid non-union workers another bonus of US$ 1,000. The payment of the bonuses violated the right to equality of unionized workers.
Home care workers join #FightFor15
Home care workers around the USA are a powerful voice in the Fight for $15 and they are not afraid to take to the streets to make their voices heard.
Day-to-day, they work alone with clients. Without seeing co-workers, and without a shared workplace. Despite this relative isolation they are joining together in the #FightFor15 movement with low paid workers all around the USA.
Home care workers are joining the Fight for 15 by taking 15 minutes out of their day to raise awarement of their movement to win higher wages and union rights.
Young Commerce: more and better jobs
UNI Europa and Eurocommerce have issued a joint study entitled ‘More and better jobs for young people in the commerce sector’. The study completes a one-year EU funded project that saw both trade unions and employers involved in a debate on how to increase the attractiveness of the sector and improve the availability of a skilled workforce.
A good employer looks different - Amazon wins the Big Brother Award 2015
The US online retailer Amazon will be awarded the Big Brother Award 2015 in Bielefeld today, winning the prize as the biggest data leech in the employer category. The honour goes to the dispatch centres Bad Hersfeld and Koblenz because the local Amazons demand that their employees disclose legally protected information - in particular sensitive medical data - at the factory gate.
