Unions gear up for Contact Center Week of Action

Unions around the world are gearing up for a week of events designed to spread the union message to contact center workers.

Now in its tenth year, the UNI ICTS Contact Center Week of Action (19 – 23 October) aims to highlight key issues for contact center workers – from stress to salaries – and the difference having a union can make. This year, the emphasis will be on part-time and temporary workers who contend with some of the most difficult conditions in the industry.

Italian unions merge to form new finance sector powerhouse

Italian unions FIBA-CISL and DIRCREDITO have merged to form the largest trade union in the finance sector, representing employees, middle managers and executives in banks, insurance, collection agencies, Banca d’Italia, bank foundations and authorities. The new union FIRST-CISL will be entitled to negotiate collective agreements for all categories of workers in the sector.

FIRST-CISL is affiliated to the CISL confederation. The two sides of the merger share an ambition to implement a new model of worker representation involving all professional levels.

CWU Slams Sell-Off of Final Royal Mail Shares

The Communication Workers Union has called the Conservative Government's announcement to sell off the government's remaining stake in the Royal Mail as "a disgrace."

The Royal Mail, the centuries-old British postal system, was initially privatised in late 2013 by a coalition government. At the time, the government maintained a 14% stake in the company. This week, the Conservative government announced it would be selling the remaining government shares in the coming days.

UNI condemns terrorist atrocity in Turkey

UNI Global Union has joined millions in condemning the terrorist atrocities which took the lives of at least 102 people and wounded many more in Turkey. Two bombs exploded during a peace rally organised by Turkish trade unions, student activists and other civil society groups in Ankara.

The attack is the deadliest in the country’s recent history and the government has declared three days of national mourning. Trade unionists are believed to be among those killed.

UNI celebrates as Tunisian affiliate shares Nobel Peace Prize

UNI Global Union is celebrating today after its Tunisian affiliate the UGTT scooped a share in the 2015 Nobel peace prize.

The trade union was a part of the Tunisian national dialogue quartet, a collection of civil society organisations awarded the prize for their contribution to a building a pluralistic democracy in the wake of the 2011 civil uprising that sparked the wider Arab Spring.
