UNI condemns police violence against labour demonstration in Indonesia

UNI Global Union joins millions of workers around the world to convey concerns on the  use of police violence in the demonstration on the minimum wage which took place in Jakarta on 30 October.

UNI affiliate ASPEK expressed their shock at the brutal repression of a peaceful demonstration. Police used water cannons, tear gas, vehicles were smashed and many protestors were beaten up. 25 demonstrators were arrested, including 8 members of ITUC affiliate KSPI and two public lawyers.

UNI Americas Post & Logistics regional meeting was held in Buenos Aires

 The meeting was held on the 21st and 22nd of October in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with the participation of unions and federations of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, El Salvador, Spain, United States, Paraguay and Portugal.

UNI MEI and UNI EOD working towards achieving diversity in media

Continuing with the work carried out by the UNI Equal Opportunities Department to provide UNI sectors with a gender perspective to their work, UNI EOD participated in the UNI MEI Conference that took place in Lisbon, Portugal on October 24th.

The meeting, which had as its theme digitalization and the new world of work, was preceded by a women’s working group, which focused on specific issues concerning the women working in the sector.

CWU convoy to deliver aid to refugees in Hungary and Turkey

UNI Global Union's UK affiliate the CWU is leading a six vehicle convoy to Turkey and Hungary to deliver vital aid to refugees.

Two 15 tonne trucks provided by the Royal Mail are already on their way to Turkey to deliver winter clothing and other essentials to trade unions for distribution to refugees. Four more vehicles will depart for Hungary next week.

The appeal, led by the CWU’s humanitarian aid department the CWUHA, has mushroomed since it received the support of fellow UK trade unions and UNI affiliates Unite, Unison and the GMB.
