UNI Global Union is in mourning following a mass shooting at a Californian care center in which members of UNI affiliate SEIU were employed.
Gunmen opened fire at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California on Wednesday killing at least 14 people and wounding 17 others. Details regarding SEIU 721 members affected by the shooting remain uncertain but it is known that many SEIU members work in areas very close to where the tragic event took place.
This week, UNI’s Polish affiliates Solidarnosc took part in a picket at the Amazon warehouse in Wroclaw to protest the poor working conditions.
The COP21 French Presidency had made the political choice to invite the Heads of States at the beginning of the climate summit to avoid the bottleneck effect which had contributed to the collapse of the negotiations in Copenhagen in 2009.
This strategy seemed to have paid off by lifting up the debate on climate in a geopolitical environment that was far from being easy. Most Heads of States gave some passionate speeches about the need to protect nature and save humanity and sent many positive signals to the negotiators by advancing concrete pledges and commitments.
