On October 14, 2013, Deutsche Telekom re-issued its Social Charter  - its group-wide statement of human rights principles. The current document commits the company to abide by ten principles that include respect for ILO principles of freedom of association and collective bargaining; prohibitions on forced and child labor; rejection of workplace discrimination; and the observance of the right to reasonable remuneration.

Families hold candlelit vigil at Rana Plaza site six months on

UNI and IndustriALL join families and survivors at site of the Bangladesh garment factory collapse in which 1,129 people died six months ago.

Families of workers who died during the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh have held a candle-lit vigil to mark six months since the day the tragedy occurred.

The families were joined at the site of the former factory by survivors as well as national trade unions, UNI Global Union and IndustriALL Global Union.

European Parliament opinion on working conditions in retail in the EU

The Employment Committee of the EP voted no to compulsory Sunday working, more rigour in regulating opening hours, wages that allow for a decent life and the application of CLA also to franchises.

On Thursday 17th October, the Employment and Social Affairs Commission of the European Parliament approved its opinion on the “European Retail Action Plan”

UNI calls on Morroco's president to back striking postal workers

Barroso must stop playing with workers’ health and safety

Brussels, Belgium 24 October 2013 - UNI Europa says the European Commission’s dismissal of the social partner agreement in the hairdressing sector is the start of a full-frontal attack on European legislation that protects workers and consumers.

Speaking at the Tripartite Social Summit which is attended by top EU leaders such as Commission President Barroso, UNI Europa’s regional secretary, Oliver Roethig, called upon the Commission to change course.

Safety and Health at Work Committee opposes Commission and REFIT

Workers’ group considers the Commission’s decision not to present legislative proposals relating to health and safety until the end of its mandate as unacceptable and irresponsible.

The Workers’ Group of the Advisory Committee on Safety and Health at Work (ACSHW) met in Luxembourg on 16 October 2013.

The Group discussed the Commission’s Communication REFIT published on 2 October 2013. The Workers’ group considers the Commission’s decision not to present legislative proposals relating to health and safety until the end of its mandate as unacceptable and irresponsible.

UNI Apro Finance President Masakzu Tahara joins in UNI Finance Eco Bank Global Campaign.

The new UNI Apro Finance President Tahara visited the Embassy of the Republic of Togo and met Mr. Steve A.D. Aklesso BODJONA, the acting ambassador of the country in Japan.

Tahara was there to handover a solidarity letter, signed in his capacity as the President of UNI Apro Finance, inviting attention of Togolese government towards the unfair labour practices of Eco Bank.
