The workers' delegation of UNI Europa Finance at the European social dialogue in the banking sector expressed its concern about the envisaged 21.000 redundancies at Barclays throughout Europe. A declaration was presented at the meeting of the European social dialogue committee on 13 June 2014 in Brussels. This committee had signed an agreement on Corporate Social Responsibility committing to redundancies being only the last resort in a restructuring process. UNI Europa Finance’s delegation at the committee meeting voiced their concern over whether this commitment will be implemented in practice by companies’ managements, in view of this example set by Barclays. Trade unions in Europe have been criticising mass redundancies in several multinational companies in the banking sector over the past years.
