(Kazan, Russia) The World Players Association today commended UNESCO for highlighting the essential need to safeguard player rights as a cornerstone of any effective approach to protecting the integrity of sport and called upon global sport to adopt a binding policy to embed the human rights of players.
On 12 July, UNI Europa, represented by its Regional Secretary Oliver Roethig, attended a Public hearing in the European Parliament on “The impact of business models, including the platform economy, on employment and social security in the EU.”
The United Nations adopted a global treaty banning nuclear weapons last Friday. Led by Austria, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa and New Zealand, the pact was drafted by 141 countries and passed by a vote of 122-to-1.
Even though the world’s nuclear powers boycotted the process, the treaty makes significant progress towards a more peaceful world. It strengthens the legal and moral case to eliminate these catastrophic weapons and will likely increase pressure on nuclear states to expedite disarmament.
