Ann Selin pays tribute to the spirit of Liverpool at UNI World Congress Opening Ceremony

At the 5th UNI Global World Congress in Liverpool, World President of UNI Global Union Ann Selin paid tribute to the spirit and history of Liverpool as a trade union city. To an arena packed with over 2500 trade union leaders from around the world, Selin said, “Liverpool’s history as a strong and proud trade union city sets the perfect tone for our conference. Just across the street from us, the Beatles Story Museum have just signed a union recognition agreement – perhaps our presence helped!”

UNI’s nominated all female leadership breaking the glass ceiling for trade union women around the world

Alke Boessiger, who has been nominated by the UNI World Executive Board as the Deputy General Secretary of UNI Global Union, delivered a strong speech on gender equality at the 5th UNI World Women’s Conference in Liverpool today.

Boessiger emphasised the woman’s struggle – the right to be educated, right to work, right to work/life balance and to be paid equally – in the current patriarchal world.

The UNI World Women’s Conference paid tribute to the vision and leadership of Denise McGuire, who will be stepping down as World President of UNI Equal Opportunities.

“I want to thank Denise for her determined and thoughtful leadership for the past years,” said Deputy General Secretary of UNI Global Union Christy Hoffman. “What a tremendous asset she has been for UNI and for the UNI Women.  We wish the happiest of retirements although, I know we will never lose Denise from our movement.”
