DIAMOND JUBILEE COMMEMORATION OF CBEU SRI LANKA
The Ceylon Bank Employees’ Union [CBEU], apex bank employee’s trade union marked its seventy-fifth anniversary on 24th March 2018, in Colombo, Sri Lanka.CBEU celebrated its 75th anniversary with the presence of its past leaders and other fraternal local and foreign organization invitees, including the UNI Apro Regional secretary Christopher Ng.
Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy was the guest of honour. Fraternal greetings and solidarity messages were also extended for the 75th anniversary of CBEU by Christopher Ng, Chee Yeeh Ceeu – NUBE Malaysia and Rainier Cruz NUBE IFO Philippines at the function. A Commemoration oration was delivered by Prof. Sumanasiri Liyanage, and a documentary on Chronicle of 75 Glorious Years of CBEU was presented to the audience.
UNI Apro Regional Secretary presented a commemorative plaque to CBEU President T G W Gunawardana and the General Secretary Ranjan Senanayake, extending solidarity and fraternal greetings from UNI Global Union.
In conjunction with the 75th Anniversary CBEU held its 11th Delegates Conference on 25th March 2018 and invited Regional Secretary Christopher Ng, and Regional Director Jayasri Priyalal to address the CBEU’s delegates’ conference. Commissioner General of Labour Mr R P A Wimalasiri graced the opening of the delegates conference a gathering of over 2000 delegates across the island.
To marks the Diamond jubilee, CBEU leadership commissioned a building project to house its headquarters, auditorium, and multipurpose training centre with research facilities for the benefit of the labour movement in Sri Lanka. CBEU leaders invited Christopher Ng and former CBEU President Tennakone Rusiripala to unveil a commemorative plaque in the newly purchased land in the city of Colombo commissioning the building project. A publication on "75 Glorious Years of CBEU -Second Epoch" was also released at the diamond jubilee celebrations and the first copy was issued to the Governor of Central Bank.
