Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) values, collaboration with UNI Apro
Engineer Masbahur Rahman Tutul, Chairman of IEB Dhaka, Centre expressed hope to collaborate, forge close relations with UNI Professionals and Managers group to further the interest of their members. Engr. Tutul extended a vote of thanks to the organizers and the participants of the joint seminar organized by IEB and UNI Apro P&M on the theme: “Securing Decent work for Professionals & Managers in the new world of work”. The seminar was held on 3rd November 2016, at IEB HQ in Ramna, Dhaka. IEB thanked UNI Apro for inviting their senior officials to participate in sub-regional capacity development seminars, which he said the participants valued as rich learning experiences.
Honorable Sahajhan Khan Minister for Shipping was the guest honour at the seminar, commended the efforts of IEB and UNI Apro for the initiative to conduct the seminar on a theme that is relevant and important for Bangladesh, at a time the country is keen to moving into “Digitisation” with a view to arresting the brain drain, and migrate to higher value adding service industries. In order to realize the national objectives it is essential that the employees secure decent work at workplaces, and employers should engage with trade unions and facilitate them to negotiate to improve workers welfare and standard of living said the minister in his address.
Dr. Shajahan Mahmood, Chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission too shared his views on the concept of decent work and highlighted the importance of a conducive working environment for professionals to become innovative and creative at the workplace. Dr. Shajahan stressed that whenever the telecom companies approach the commission, to merge and attempt downsizing, he is always concerned to minimize the job losses.
IEB invited Mr. Jayasri Priyalal, Regional Director for UNI Apro Finance, Professionals & Mangers group to deliver the keynote speech on the theme of the seminar. Priyalal touched on the challenges, changes and the choices available for achieving sustainable development goals for a shared future. His message was loud and clear for a multistakeholder collaboration to enable a just transition from a market to a social economy, highlighted the key findings of the UNI global unions survey and research in the new world of work in his presentation. Engr. Aminur Rashid Chowdhury Honorary Secretary of IEB Dhaka Centre welcomed all guests and participants to the seminar held in IEB HQ in Dhaka, and he appreciated the efforts of UNI Bangladesh Liaison Council President Amjad Ali Khan and Executive Secretary A K M Mostafa Kamal in organizing the seminar.
