Four founder members of SABAH Banking Employees Union (SBEU) were paraded to the stage and felicitated for their brave action, and determination to stand united to secure rights and improve the standard of living amongst bank employees and their families as early as in 1966 in solidarity through forming a trade union, with a rousing applause of the gathering.SBEU celebrated the union’s golden jubilee on 22nd October 2016, in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah East Malaysia by hosting a gala dinner to their members and invitees from the trade union fraternity of the UNI family. The function was illuminated with rich cultural performances unique to Sabah’s diverse indigenous community.
Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, Kota Kinabalu City’s Mayor was the guest of honor together with Christopher Ng UNI Apro Regional Secretary as a special guest at the SBEU’s 50th-anniversary celebration dinner.
UNI Apro and UNI MLC jointly presented an award to Sister Catherine Jikunan, General Secretary of SBEU in recognition of her outstanding leadership rendered to the union. Christopher Ng UNI Apro Regional Secretary presented a special plaque to Sis Margaret Chin President of SBEU in recognition of SBEU’s contribution to their members and to UNI and UNI Apro being a pioneering treasured affiliate from the region.
Banking industry trade union leaders who were invited as special guests to grace the occasion presented plaques to mark the historic occasion to SBEU’s President Sis Margaret Chin. NUBE Malaysia, SBEU Singapore, NUBE Philippines and CBEU Sri Lanka presented the special plaques to SBEU’s President and the Secretary as a special gift to mark the occasion.
UNI Apro Finance convened the 10th ASEAN Bank Unions Council meeting on 21st October 2016 in Kota Kinabalu prior to the SBEU’s golden jubilee celebration in Kota Kinabalu.
