Italy's finance unions have asked their members to donate part of their salaries to support workers and families affected by the country's recent earthquake.

Angelo Di Cristo of FABI said, “The unions all together have invited bank workers to donate 10 euros of their salary. If they do so, the bank will donate the same amount.”

Across Italy trade unions are expressing their solidarity to the victims of the disaster which struck central regions on 24 August. IndustriALL says Italian metalworkers’ unions FIM, FIOM and UILM have also been donating an hours’ wages towards reconstruction efforts whilst ProSolidar, a cross-sector union development organization, has also allocated an amount for an immediate emergency response.

The earthquake with its epicentre near the village of Amatrice struck early on 24 August. The event has claimed the lives of at least 267 people and injured hundreds more.
