The National Lottery in Argentina has announced its decision to close 5 bingos resulting in 500 people loosing their jobs. 

Last weekend UNI's affiliate ALEARA, representing workers in bingos and other gambling establishments, organised a protest putting up tents in front of the Moreno bingo. The protest camp was set up for 48 hours and workers demanded appropriate compensations for workers who lost their jobs. 

Ariel Fassione, the Union Secretary,  explained: "Only the owner of the Caballito bingo agreed to pay compensations and the union is discussing with the workers abut the process, while the other companies operating four bingo halls try to avoid the negotiations". The owners have claimed that they are unable to pay unemployment compensation to their employees. The bingo located in the province of Buenos Aires belongs to the owner of the establishments also operating in the districts of Flores, Congreso, Belgrano and Lavalle. They were all closed by the decision of the National Lottery.

Union Secretary Ariel Fassione said: “We demand that if the decision is to close the bingo halls that people are compensated accordingly. Now the state is letting people go without work.”

UNI Gaming supports the demands of ALEARA and calls the gambling authorities and bingo owners in Argentina to negotiate with the union ensuring the best possible solution for the workers.
