UNI Europa and UNI Global Union’s entire 20 million membership strongly condemn the latest attacks in Ankara, Turkey and Grand Bassam, Ivory Coast which have claimed dozens more innocent lives.

Participants gathered in Rome for the 5th UNI Europa Regional Conference expressed their anger and disgust at these two violent and unprovoked attacks.

The Conference sends sincere condolences to the families of the victims and a message of solidarity.

UNI Global Union General Secretary Philip Jennings said, “We express our support for the unions in these countries who are at the forefront of the call for peace, justice and democracy.”

Turkey

A car bomb exploded in the Turkish capital Ankara, killing 32 people and wounding more than 100. This is the latest of series of attacks in Turkey. Last October more than 100 people were killed, including many unionists, in a double-suicide bombing at a Kurdish peace rally in Ankara.

Ivory Coast

Militants killed at least 16 people in a gun attack on a beach resort in southern Ivory Coast. The resort is popular with both locals and foreigners. Four of the dead were Westerners, including a French and a German national.
