The 5th UNI Apro / JPGU's Joint English Camp was held on 10 and 11 October, 2015 in Ohme, Tokyo. Thirty two participants came together and three youth from abroad (Bro. Dedi Haryanto, SPPI of Indonesia, Sis. Amia Teng, CPWU of Taiwan, and Bro. Chris Henwood, NALC of the US) were invited as resource persons.
In the opening, Vice President Masuda welcomed all youth members and resource persons and hoped their active participation. He also encouraged them to learn postal unions’ activities in other countries each other, postal situations where resource persons had come from, and communicate with them all in English. Sis. Yoko Ogawa, Director of UNI Apro Tokyo Office facilitated their self-introduction by breaking the ice through fun games.
One of the themes of this camp was about unions' contributions to local communities. Resource persons explained experiences in their home counties. Bro. Dedi talked about postal deregulation, new postal service lineups, working conditions, and introduction of SPPI. Sis. Amia Teng, made a presentation on Chunghwa Post, Youth in CPWU, and Work Life Balance. Bro. Chris Henwood delivered about the US Postal Service, the NALC - National Association of Letter Carriers and its community services and challenges which the USPS has been faced. Bro. Ito, Director of the UNI Apro Post and Logistic sector described his 15 year-long contribution to the UNI / UNI Apro and its postal sector.
All resource persons were fully helpful for the group work through exchanging opinions with members and sharing their home unions' activities concerning the theme through their experience. Participants made reports in English on their social contribution activities.
All participants and resource persons learned postal situations and unions' activities in Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, and the USA. They understood postal union members are connected with each other as UNI family through this seminar.
