On October 9, UNI Post and Logistics Global Union joins our 2.5 million members around the world in celebrating World Post Day.
On this day, the world commemorates the unique contributions of Posts and postal workers to our global society. No other institution has developed such a broad and inclusive network as the post, connecting the world through a vast human network of more than 6 million postal workers. As it always has, today’s global postal system allows the world to communicate, to do business and to build an interconnected society.
As we take a moment to reflect on what the post has achieved to this point, we must also consider what’s at stake for the future of postal services. Liberalisation, privatization and technological change are massively transforming the post in every corner of the globe. The effects these forces have had on postal workers cannot be understated.
As postal trade unionists, we should see World Post Day as an opportunity to redouble our efforts in defence of our members. UNI P&L and our affiliates are committed to being the leading voice in calling for a future post that is dynamic and innovative. We are committed to quality and universal postal services. And we must continue our efforts to ensure that the global postal system is grounded in a foundation of decent work for the millions of workers who connect us all via the post every single day.
UNI Post and Logistics Global Union will continue our work to build good jobs, strong unions and strong posts on this World Post Day and for many more to come.
We wish you all a very happy World Post Day.
