The UNI IKEA Global Union Alliance, meeting in Milan on 5 – 6 October 2015, declares its solidarity with, and support for, the Italian workers who are fighting to win back their collective agreement with the company which was unilaterally terminated by IKEA Italy.

For the members UNI IKEA Global Union Alliance, for UNI Global Union and for all unions representing IKEA workers, constructive social dialogue is the key to economic success for the company, along with decent working conditions and pay. The quality of IKEA’s customer service has been instrumental to the company’s success. That quality and success are inconceivable without the workplace rights and protection that IKEA workers enjoy.

IKEA has regularly declared that its employees are the backbone of the success of the company and that good labour relations are the key.

In Italy, IKEA has had a social dialogue with the Filcams CGIL, Fisascat CISL and UILTuCS unions for more than 25 years. In the past, IKEA and the unions have concluded a number of agreements enabling IKEA to become the market leader with 21 successful stores throughout the country.

The UNI IKEA Global Union Alliance encourages all parties to urgently conclude an agreement which allows for the protection of worker rights and the wellbeing of the employees along with continued success of the company.
