Health care assistants from across Ireland joined together in Dublin yesterday to launch their new sector and a new vision for the future of their work.

190 health care assistants gathered together to share their experiences, and meet others who, like themselves, work incredibly hard to ensure high quality care is delivered to the Irish community.

Their demands are simple: respect our work and the role we play in the health care system. That means:

• Proper pay and conditions
• National Uniforms
• A Job description
• Ongoing training
• Permanent jobs for interns
• Registration

And SIPTU members were already kicking goals with commitments made at the meeting by the Irish Minister of Labour and the the Health Service's Human Resources department to a range of solutions to the problems being faced by the workforce.

This is a great start! Over the coming weeks and months SIPTU members will stand together to lock in these commitments and win improvements.
