Ministry of Manpower and ASPEK Indonesia signs a MOU to promote OSH in Retail Sector
ASPEK Indonesia and the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia are committed to develop, promote and implement occupational safety and health strategy in the retail sector. This commitment is reflected in the Charter of Implementation and Development of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) signed by Ir. Amri AK, MM, Director of Occupational Safety and Health Norms, Ministry of Manpower and Mirah Sumirat SE, President of ASPEK Indonesia on Saturday, February 28th, 2015 at Gedung Joang 45, No. 31 Jakarta. The signing was witnessed by the UNI Apro Regional Secretary Christopher Ng, ASETUC Secretary General, Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal and Drs. A. Mudji Handaya, MSi., Director General of Labour Inspection and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), Ministry of Manpower, Republic of Indonesia.
In her welcoming address, the President of ASPEK, Mirah Sumirat, SE, declares ASPEK’s commitment to work in partnership with the Government and Employers to promote and implement effective occupational safety and health strategies to enhance protection not only for the employees but also the customers of commerce/retail sector companies which are affiliated to ASPEK Indonesia. Drs. A. Mudji Handaya, M.Si, praised ASPEK Indonesia for being the only trade union federation that is fully committed to the development and implementation of Occupational Safety and Health at the workplaces. He emphasize the need for employers and trade unions to work in partnership to promote OSH as part of the decent work strategy in his speech.
The signing of the Charter is done in conjunction with the celebration of 15th Anniversary of ASPEK Indonesia. The theme of the 15th ASPEK Indonesia Anniversary is "Unite with love, engage with solidarity to achieve workers welfare". Each respected guest cut the cone-shaped rice, as a symbol of gratitude for all members of ASPEK Indonesia.
Christopher Ng, UNI Apro Regional Secretary commended ASPEK Indonesia and the MOM Indonesia for this initiative and assure them of UNI Apro support in their effort to promote OSH in the retail sector, particularly the implementation of the UNI Apro/ASETUC Guidelines on OSH in the Retail Sector. Shafie BP Mammal, Secretary General of ASETUC congratulated ASPEK and MOM and is encouraged by ASPEK’s commitment to ASETUC’s philosophy of smart partnership, as manifested by the signing of the Charter between ASPEK and the MOM.
The signing ceremony was attended by more than 500 participants, including ASPEK members, employers, government, Association of training institute for OSH, SSO, NGO, press and others. From the employers, among others, are from PT Hero Supermarket Tbk and PT United Tractors. In their speech, the employers expressed their commitment to work with the union to implement OSH culture in their respective company.
