Solidarity messages for UNI-LCJ Annual General Meeting

Sis. Christy Hoffman, Deputy General Secretary and Bro. Christopher Ng, UNI Apro Regional Secretary warmly welcomed the newly-elected UNI-LCJ Management Committee members including Bro. Omata, Bro. Gunji and Sis. Ogawa, when the 16th UNI-LCJ Annual General Meeting was successfully held on January 20, 2015 in Tokyo. They also recognized resigned Bro. Aihara, Bro. Hachino and Bro. Ito for their great contributions and support to UNI and UNI Apro.
Sis. Christy on behalf of Bro. Philip Jennings, UNI General Secretary who was in Davos to speak at the Annual World Economic Forum in that week, gave an inspiring speech for the delegates to the AGM. She congratulated UNI-LCJ on another Breaking Through in gender equality by breaking new ground with selection of a woman as the Executive Secretary. All the delegates especially women in the AGM was very much inspired by her own experience and career in the trade union movement working alongside mostly men and now being one of the top leaders in the Global Unions.
On behalf of UNI Apro, Bro. Christopher, Regional Secretary who had been to all the annual meetings since the UNI-LCJ was formed 14 years ago, thanked UNI-LCJ and its leaderships for their critical contributions and unstinted support to the growth of UNI and UNI Apro in terms of membership and influence of UNI. Witnessing the historic and significant change in leadership and secretariat, he assured Bro. Omata of UNI Apro’s support in his discharge of the new responsibility as UNI-LCJ Chairperson. He also thanked retired Bro. Ito, his old friend and partner for his long years of dedicated and committed services as UNI-LCJ Executive Secretary and Director for UNI Apro Tokyo Office.
Bro. Philip Jennings sent a video message from Davos for the UNI-LCJ AGM. While the terrorism, violence and intolerance in this unstable world have been great concerns and threatens to peace, he reminded that the answer to solve these problems is “Including You”. As 2015 is the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and Atomic bombing on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, he would visit Nagasaki again to pledge UNI’s resolution on Peace and Anti-Nuclear weapons. Picking up small Darumas, he looked forward to celebrating more Global Agreements to be signed with Japanese multinational companies under the leadership of Bro. Omata and his new UNI-LCJ Management Committee.
