Unions belonging to UNI Global Union declared a day of General Strike, as ABI   decided to withdraw from the National Collective Agreement.

A long negotiation without results..

During more than 12 month negotiation, for the renewal of the National Agreement for the Banking Sector, ABI (the Italian Banking Association), reaffirmed the great difficulties in which banks are involved.

ABI requested to Unions the following:

Recovery of the mere purchasing power of the salaries through inflation indexes

Structural blocking of the severance pay and seniority increases;

Reduction of the contract area and revision of the salary schemes.

The Italian Trade Unions belonging to UNI, jointly declared the unfeasibility of a negotiation based on the economic proposals presented by ABI “as prejudicial”: they considered improper the exchange between a fair salary increase,  and severance pay & seniority coverage.

In addition, Unions underlined that ABI requests on the contract coverage would bring to the exclusion of thousand of bank workers from the sector.

As consequence of the failure of negotiation, the Italian Banking Association decided to withdraw from the National Collective Agreement by March 31th.

Following that decision, Unions declared a strike for January 30th.
